Neko Courtyard ”猫の庭“

This courtyard renovation in Palo Alto creates a lush and inviting outdoor retreat for a family and their three cats. The design divides the small site into distinct zones, each with its own planting theme and material palette.

At the front yard, native grasses and seasonal flowers set a welcoming tone. A wooden slat gate with a rose arch leads into the side yard, where a mature Blue Atlas cedar is complemented by layers of soft green and silvery plants.

The rear yard features linear pavers that blend into groundcover, with basalt columns placed among dense plantings. A birdbath fountain attracts wildlife and forms the main view from the living room, while also serving as a playful hideaway for the cats.

In the corner, under redwoods, a round pavilion provides a cozy spot for outdoor dining and family gatherings. Together, these spaces form a tranquil, nature-filled home garden.
